Dr Sotirios Vasileiadis obtained his University Diploma in Agricululture-Crop Production from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, his MSc in Organic Farming by the University of Wageningen (thesis in Phytopathology) and his PhD in Soil Microbial Ecology from Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCattSC), Sede di Piacenza, Italy. In his PhD and first postDoc at UCattSC he worked with metals and pesticides as potential stressors of the soil microbial communities and developed methods for the study of gene diversity with multiplexed high throughput sequencing. Following, he performed a second postdoc at the University of South Australia (Mawson Lakes, Adelaide) working on the stress posed by silver on the soil microorganisms and microbial functions. There, he also worked on the microbial resistance to antibiotics in waste water treatment plant influents/effluents and hospital wastes and water with culture and culture independent approaches among other projects. He then joined the Laboratory of Plant and Environmental Biotechnology working as a Marie Curie fellow through a MSCA Individual Fellowship project EMIGRATE (Exploring Microbial Networking in Pesticides Biodegradation: novel inocula and biocatalysts for biodepuration of agro-industrial effluents). His main research interest is to dissect the ecology of soil microbial communities responding to external perturbations using advanced omic and bioinformatic tools. He has published 58 articles (Scopus: h-index 20, Citations 1215) in peer-reviewed journals, two book chapters and has more than 70 publications in conference proceedings.
